Joanne Shaw Taylor Unleashes Defiant New Single “What Are You Gonna Do Now?” Ahead of Black & Gold

Blues-rock powerhouse Joanne Shaw Taylor has dropped her latest single, What Are You Gonna Do Now?, via Journeyman Records. The track is the newest preview of her highly anticipated album, Black & Gold, set for release on June 6th. A searing anthem of defiance and closure, the song showcases Taylor at her most fearless, turning personal pain into a cathartic blues-rock powerhouse.

A Bold, Unfiltered Statement

Inspired by a past relationship with a narcissist, What Are You Gonna Do Now? is Taylor’s way of reclaiming her power. “I’ve never really spoken much about it and certainly never addressed it in my music,” she shares. “I think I’ve never been brave enough to write about them before as I was genuinely scared of them. I’m not now—screw them. If you don’t want someone to write a song about you being a terrible person, don’t be a terrible person.”

Driven by a relentless groove and razor-sharp lyricism, the song tears through deception and manipulation with unshakable confidence. Taylor’s commanding vocals cut through as she sings, Here you come again, with a story to spin… I just woke up screaming from a nightmare you had me believing. The tension builds before erupting into a fiery guitar solo, a signature move that solidifies her as one of the genre’s most electrifying guitarists.

Black & Gold: A Genre-Blending Blues-Rock Experience

Set for release on June 6th via Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records, Black & Gold fuses classic blues-rock grit with modern influences, weaving in soulful Americana and high-voltage indie-rock. With each single, Taylor continues to elevate her craft, proving why she remains one of the most compelling voices in contemporary blues.

Taking Black & Gold to the Stage

Fans won’t have to wait long to experience the new album live. Taylor is set to embark on her 2025 U.S. Spring Tour, including a highly anticipated run with Keeping The Blues Alive at Sea X from March 21-26. Her performances promise high-energy sets filled with new material and fan favourites, delivered with the raw emotion and electrifying presence that have become her hallmark.
