Jared James Nichols has released his new single “Killing Time,” the third track taken from his upcoming album Louder Than Fate, due out 5 June 2026 via Frontiers Music Srl.
The single arrives with an official video, filmed in the basement of Halestorm Manor, the home of Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger.
Written and recorded in Nashville with producer Roger Alan Nichols, “Killing Time” leans into the blues-driven hard rock that has shaped Nichols’ career, while showing a more reflective side.
Nichols says the track deals with the difficulty of letting go.
“‘Killing Time’ is not being able to cut the loss of a relationship when you know you have to move on. It’s about walking a lonely path while hanging onto hope, even when all is lost. Writing this song was a personal reminder that it is OK to close chapters and move on to new beginnings.”
A record built without rushing
Louder Than Fate is Nichols’ fourth studio album. He describes it as the first time he allowed the songwriting process to unfold without pressure.
“What’s cool with this record is this is the first time I ever took my time as a songwriter and we did not rush any aspect of it,” he says.
Several songs were recorded at Studio 606 in Los Angeles, the studio owned by Foo Fighters. The result is a record that moves between direct guitar rock and more layered arrangements.
The album was produced and mixed by Jay Ruston, with additional production from Roger Alan Nichols. Tracks such as “Bending or Breaking” and “Killing Time” introduce subtle keyboards and string textures without losing the weight of the riffs.
Nichols has spent the past decade touring heavily across the US and Europe, building a reputation for high-volume, no-frills live shows. He is also a global ambassador for Gibson and has shared stages and jams with players including Zakk Wylde, Slash and Joe Perry.
With “Killing Time,” Nichols continues to balance heavy guitar work with more personal songwriting, setting the tone for the full album release in June.
