Co-written by Bonamassa, Hagar, and renowned producer Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, Journey, The Black Crowes), the song pays homage to classic blues while injecting it with a raw, modern edge. Shirley revealed that the track originated from a rough idea sent by Hagar while they were recording in Greece. What emerged was a gritty, haunting blues piece with a distinct New Orleans-style grit.
“Joe was in an especially gritty mood and played the entire track on an Ovation acoustic guitar plugged into an overdriven amp,” Shirley explained. “We wanted to create a unique blues sound to match the lyrics, and we’re thrilled with how it turned out.”
Hagar put it more bluntly: “Holy shit, this one turned out amazing… the track is a monster!”
