graham dee the thirteenth man
Graham Dee has been around a long time, mainly in the Northern soul scene and this album is Blues but in the soul genre. His guitar work is on the money and sets a nice groove but I found it a bit samey. Graham’s forte is that he surrounds himself with great musicians and has a great brass section, tasteful backing singers and a rhythm back line to die for. He has a Graham Bond vocal style which at times, (for my taste) becomes lacking in passion but all in all this album should appeal to the soul brigade with their mohair suits and anyone who like their music with a jazzy big band sound. It should be played late at night, lights down low, and a bottle of your favourite drink. Northern soul music has never been my thing but if it’s yours give it a go and you won’t be disappointed.
