The Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, Ireland, from 30th May to 2nd June 2024. This unique event pays homage to the legendary guitarist Rory Gallagher, who was born in Ballyshannon in 1948. Founded by Barry O’Neill in 2002, the festival has grown into an international gathering, drawing fans from over 20 countries each year.
This year’s festival promises to be a special celebration of Rory Gallagher’s music and legacy. The headline acts include an array of blues rock legends, ensuring an unforgettable experience for music enthusiasts. Among the top performers are ULI JON ROTH & HIS BAND (formerly of Scorpions and UFO), the iconic CANNED HEAT from the USA, known for their Woodstock performance, and BAND OF FRIENDS featuring Gerry McAvoy, Brendan O’Neill, and Davy Knowles.
The festival will also see many debut performances, including renowned American guitarist ALBERT CUMMINGS, the Dutch psychedelic rock band DEWOLFF, and the exquisite slide guitarist ERJA LYYTINEN & HER BAND, making their Irish debut. Additionally, NINE BELOW ZERO returns to the festival stage, fronted by Dennis Greaves and Rory’s friend, harp player MARK FELTHAM.
Local talent will also shine at the festival. Festival legends JOHNNY GALLAGHER & BOXTIE, Mama’s Boy’s legend PAT McMANUS & HIS BAND, and superb Irish blues guitarist GRAINNE DUFFY & HER BAND will perform alongside other great acts such as the ZAC SCHULZE GANG and the AIDEN PRYOR BAND.
The festival will feature performances at various iconic locations throughout Ballyshannon, including the Rory Gallagher Theatre, street stages at Rory Gallagher Place, the Rory Gallagher Statue, The Gables, the Rock Hospital, and 10 pub venues. With a full programme of activities and gigs, this year’s festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of Rory Gallagher’s enduring legacy.
