Tomás Doncker and the True Groove All-Stars Release ‘Let Me Be Dirty,’ First Video From Upcoming EP Driving Through Limbo, Vol. 1

“Let Me Be Dirty,” the first video from Tomás Doncker’s upcoming album, Driving Through Limbo Vol.1, distills vintage rhythm & blues through a modern lens. Recorded live in one searing take, Doncker and the True Groove All-Stars tap into a groove and style that slide in seamlessly as a new entry in the lineage created by singer-guitarist-songwriters like Curtis Mayfield, Johnny Guitar Watson, Chuck Brown and Bobby Womack.

The song is dripping with a ‘turn-the-lights-down-and-the-body-heat-up’ feeling you’d find on the soundtrack to Trouble Man or Slaughter’s Big Ripoff. Doncker’s vocals are just the right balance of smooth and stanky, while a steamy beat and cinematic arrangement rumple the bedsheets all night long; the lyrics might be PG, but the vibe is most definitely rated X.
