The Boneshakers return with soul-charged 11th studio album ‘Live To Be This’

The Boneshakers have unleashed their latest studio album, ‘Live To Be This’, now available on Gulf Coast Records. This marks the band’s 11th studio release and one of their most powerful to date, fusing raw blues, soul, and rock with the energy and authenticity fans have come to expect.

The album features the commanding vocals of Jenny Langer and the expert guitar work of Randy Jacobs, founding member of Was (Not Was). It is their first release on Gulf Coast Records, a move that both artists have praised for its creative freedom and musical alignment.

“This album is a love letter to the music that shaped us,” says Langer. “It’s gritty, soulful and alive.” Jacobs adds, “Jenny and I have found ourselves in great company with Gulf Coast Records. It’s all about positive energy and love for the music.”

Following the success of One Foot in the Groove, which topped the UK Blues radio charts, Live To Be This carries forward that momentum with fresh energy. Langer, who joined as lead vocalist in 2020 and is a past winner at the International Blues Challenge (Best CD), delivers bold, emotional performances throughout.

The album features the singles “I’ll Kick A Brick (For My Man)” and “Salty”, the latter of which includes a guest appearance by three-time Grammy winner Bobby Rush.

Produced by John Wooler, who worked on the band’s 1990s breakthrough album Book of Spells, this release blends originals written by Jacobs and Langer with reimagined tributes to Screaming Jay Hawkins, Betty Davis, Iggy Pop, Jimmy Hall, and Ike & Tina Turner.

Guest contributors read like a who’s who of blues and soul: Charlie Musselwhite, Don Was, Coco Montoya, Jimmy Carpenter, John ‘Papa’ Gros, and Ron Holloway all feature across the album.

Live To Be This is more than a studio album. It’s a celebration of The Boneshakers’ roots and a statement of intent for the future, combining Detroit soul with the spirit of Memphis and Muscle Shoals.

The album is out now on digital platforms, CD and vinyl.
