Marc Broussard announces new blues album Chance Worth Taking

Marc Broussard will release his first full album of original blues material, Chance Worth Taking, on 17 April via KTBA Records.

Produced by Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith alongside Calvin Turner, the 14-track collection marks a clear creative shift for the Louisiana singer-songwriter. Bonamassa contributes guitar on 10 tracks, including three co-writes with Broussard. Smith co-wrote and appears on four songs, while Turner co-wrote ten tracks and shaped the album’s horn and string arrangements.

Two singles preview the record. “No More” is a cinematic blues ballad built around strings and Bonamassa’s expressive lead guitar. “Fever” leans into a modern roadhouse groove, driven by rhythm guitar, horns and Smith’s sharp solo work.

Although the album signals a stronger blues focus, Broussard’s bayou soul voice remains central. Across the record, he moves between horn-led blues rock, classic shuffle rhythms, soul balladry and New Orleans-inspired funk.

The project began when Turner suggested a set of original blues songs and shared a collection of instrumentals. Broussard wrote lyrics rapidly over several days before refining the material in the studio with Bonamassa and Smith. Additional writing sessions with Bonamassa produced three further songs, helping define the album’s final direction.

Highlights include “Let Me Take You Out Tonight,” built around big-band blues arrangements in the spirit of B.B. King, and “Blame,” featuring interplay between Bonamassa, Smith and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Reese Wynans. “These Walls” delivers an 80s-style power ballad feel, while the title track and “Sweet Love” return to Broussard’s soul roots.

The album closes with “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler,” co-written with Trombone Shorty, bringing the record back to New Orleans with brass and rhythm-driven energy.

Chance Worth Taking follows Broussard’s 2023 collaboration with Bonamassa, SOS 4 Blues for Your Soul, which debuted at number one on Billboard’s Blues Album Chart.

With this release, Broussard steps more firmly into the blues space while retaining the vocal character that has defined his career.
