On February 2, 2024, British blues roots rock artist Bex Marshall will release “I Can’t Look You In The Eye,” the second single from her upcoming album “Fortuna,” which drops on March 1, 2024, via Dixiefrog Records.
The track, co-written with Scott Coopwood from Clarksdale, Mississippi, delves into the intense energy between two people in conversation. Marshall’s distinctive vocals and unique guitar skills shine throughout the album, which blends blues, funk, rock, and Americana across ten tracks.
After a decade-long hiatus, Marshall returns with “Fortuna,” showcasing her growth as a leading female guitarist. Recorded with a stellar lineup of London talent, the album reflects Marshall’s journey over the years, tackling themes of love, societal change, and resilience with humor and tenacity.
The album’s upbeat energy and iconic guitar sounds pay homage to Marshall’s influences, from Tina Turner to John Lee Hooker. Marshall’s songwriting retreats in Cyprus inspire her to craft authentic and meaningful lyrics, resulting in a soulful yet energetic record.
During lockdown, Marshall tragically lost her friend and bass player, “Red Bass” (Robert Eugene Daniels), who contributed to five tracks on the album. The closing track, “When It’s Gone,” serves as a tribute to him, featuring BJ Cole on dobro.
With “Fortuna,” Marshall delivers a powerful blend of soulful rock blues, funk, and gospel, inviting listeners on a journey of musical exploration and reflection.
