Edinburgh Blues Club has announced its concert schedule for the first half of 2023 and comprises a broad spectrum of the blues, including blues rock, gospel blues, southern blues and blues funk. It features artists from the UK, USA, Canada and Germany.
Things kick off on January 26th with Scotland’s own Gerry Jablonski Band. A powerful and energetic stand out act with an ultra confident, no holds barred swagger. With a unique, trademark sound and style, their raw and crafty show takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride of charming and gutsy music with hooks and melodies that cross genres.
February sees two shows, the first of which is the exciting new and prodigious talent of Alice Armstrong Band on Friday 10th. Known for her wide vocal range, unconventional lyrics, red hair and unrivalled stage presence, Alice has been nominated for four different categories in the UK Blues Awards in the last three years.
February’s second show, Robert Jon & The Wreck is already sold out as these southern rock & blues giants from the USA come back to the UK.
Returning to the club by popular demand is Wille & The Bandits on March 3rd. Wille &The Bandits are a British-based band who play a variety of different genres spanning across the blues, rock, Latin and folk styles. They have gained a deserved reputation for their electrifying live performances.
On April 16th Sarah Brown performs the songs of gospel blues pioneer and legend Mahalia Jackson. You may not know Sarah Brown’s name, but you’ll most definitely have heard her voice. From her appearances on records with the likes of Pink Floyd, George Michael, Stevie Wonder and Simply Read, plus tours with Roxy Music, Simple Minds and Duran Duran, the English-born singer is one of the most prolific and in-demand vocalists in the world.
Finally, May 4th sees the visit of mercurial guitarist Henrick Frieishlader. Henrick blends in musical styles such as rock, jazz, soul and funk, with blues the basis of all his songs. His guitar-playing is influenced by Gary Moore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Peter Green, Albert Collins and Albert King.
All shows are at The Voodoo Rooms, except Henrick Freishlader which is at The Caves.
