BELFAST MUSICIAN BOUND FOR MEMPHIS

Belfast musician Dom Martin has been chosen by the UK Blues Federation to represent the UK at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee in January 2022. Often likened to the late great Rory Gallagher, the Belfast born man turned professional just over 3 years ago and has since picked up a European Blues Award (2019) and two consecutive UK Blues Awards (2020/21).

Dom says, “It’s a real honour to be asked to go to Memphis to represent the UK and Belfast blues fans in particular and after such a terrible time for everyone during the Covid pandemic, it’s a real boost for me personally to be able to go to the USA for the first time and take part in such a prestigious event. To be honest, I was wondering a while ago if I could still continue as a musician but when it comes down to it, it’s all I’ve ever known, picking up a guitar and singing, I don’t know what else I could do! I have to really thank my family, my management Red Pepper Promotions and also the Arts Council NI who have helped out during these hard times with grants and advice. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be in this position. It’ll be a tough one going into the backyard of the blues in Memphis against the worlds top blues artists but I’ll give it everything I’ve got!”

Dom currently has a GoFundMe (https://gofund.me/d747ed8b) running to help with travel and accommodation costs to add to the UK Blues Federation generous contribution of £1000.
