Wood Burnt Red come out swinging on Hold On Tight, a debut that plants its boots firmly in Southern rock territory while letting country, Americana and blues notations seep into the cracks. This is music with muscle, attitude and, crucially, something to say. Across eleven tracks, the UK four-piece prove they can deliver a big riff without sacrificing the stories behind it.
Best Things, gets the ball rolling with a wry look at modern life, while Fire Me Up, hits the accelerator with crunching guitars, a thunderous rhythm section and Tom Franklin’s baritone vocals, this is the secret weapon throughout, gravelly, commanding, and capable of flipping from defiant to wounded without ever sounding contrived. This is the sound of a band kicking down the door rather than politely knocking.
Bartender, brings classic barroom heartbreak, while Drifting digs deeper, revealing a more vulnerable side to the songwriting. The album’s strength lies in that balance. Count My Blessings explores resilience and addiction recovery, One Chance tackles love and trust, and Every Road, carries a familiar ache of looking back while trying to move forward. Times A Healer, adds some swagger, before Simple Place, strips everything back to what really matters. To The Moon, lifts the mood with an uplifting, fists-in-the-air energy, while Where You Are Now, closes the album on a more reflective note.
Produced by Tyler Spicer, this release sounds muscular without becoming over-polished. Wood Burnt Red have captured the grit, warmth and live-wire chemistry that makes Southern rock so compelling. A confident debut, packed with hooks, heart and plenty of horsepower. This is a band choosing authenticity over gloss, grit over perfection, and heart over hype.
Wood Burnt Red are definitely a band to watch out for.
