Canadian Roots, Rock, and Soul sensation Bywater Call is back with their electrifying new single, “As If,” the third release of 2024 and the fifth track from their eagerly anticipated studio album Shepherd. The single is now available for streaming HERE, and the music video can be watched HERE.
“As If” is a high-energy, funk-infused track driven by the tight rhythm section of bassist Mike Meusel and drummer Bruce McCarthy. The song features the powerful, emotion-laden vocals of lead singer Meghan Parnell, complemented by searing guitar riffs and a groovy blend of keys and horns. From its debut in mid-2023, “As If” has quickly become a crowd favourite, known for its vibrant and infectious energy.
Meghan Parnell explains, “This song embodies the awareness, anger, acceptance, and breaking free from toxic energy in one’s life,” drawing inspiration from her past relationships. The track was partially recorded at the picturesque barn studio of producer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Howley in Ontario, Canada, with additional recording and mixing by drummer Bruce McCarthy at The BeatFarm in Toronto.
“As If” follows the April release of “Roll” and the March release of “Holler,” both of which garnered significant attention, including extensive A-list radio play on the UK’s Planet Rock Radio. These singles, along with the 2023 hits “Sweet Maria” and “For All We Know,” will all be featured on the new album.
Shepherd, set to release on August 9th, 2024, promises a captivating mix of 10 original songs that showcase Bywater Call’s continued exploration and innovation within their genre. The album is a testament to the band’s growth and their ability to blend historical and contemporary influences into a unique and compelling sound.

In 2023, Bywater Call played an impressive 96 shows across 10 countries, 89 cities, 19 US states, and 3 Canadian provinces, including a standout performance on Joe Bonamassa’s third Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea Mediterranean Cruise. This October, they will headline their second UK tour, bringing their unparalleled live energy to audiences across the region.
