Finally, it’s time for Thorbjorn Risager to hit the UK with full power!

Audiences and media people in the UK have kept asking, through the years, when the band would come over. And now the time has come.

They did a successful gig at Blues On The Farm in June this year, and we’ve managed to book this excellent seven-piece-band at some great venues in November:

13 Nov:  Ilfracombe Blues Festival, Devon
(on stage at 08:30 pm/TBC)     www.ilfracombebluesfestival.co.uk

14 Nov:  Boom Boom Club, Sutton, Surrey

(doors open at 08:30 pm)
15 Nov:  The Beaverwood Club, Chislehurst, Kent
(doors open at 08:30 pm) www.feenstra.co.uk/chislehurst

To get an impression of what to expect from the band on stage, check out these videos from the legendary German TV-show ROCKPALAST (broadcast April 2016 on national TV):

The first enthusiastic reviews from Britain came back in 2006 when we sent their second album ”From The Heart” to media, and the band played at Burnley Mechanics in 2008. After that they’ve been busy establishing themselves as a big name in Germany, touring Canada, going to Mumbai, and writing enough new songs to release albums with 12 – 18 months’ interval, with nearly only original music. They play on average 100 gigs per year.

QUOTES:
Simon Redley in Blues & Soul Magazine:
This guy is a singer’s singer, but maybe born too late, because if he had been doing this job in the ’50s and ’60s and lived in the USA, surely he would be a legend by now. http://www.bluesandsoul.com/review/2159/thorbjorn_risager_and_the_black_tornado_too_many_roads_ruf_records

Tom Ruf about this band, who plays on the opening track of Ruf Record’s 20 year Anniversary celebration CD:
Another euro artist – which makes him rare amongst the Americans and Brits on the guys side of the Ruf roster. Hailing from Denmark, Thorbjørn and his seven-piece band have brought their blues all across Europe and now they’re even breaking into North America. They’re arguably the hottest act on the European blues circuit right now, so I couldn’t turn the opportunity down when the guys came to me asking for help in extending and building their already impressive recording and touring achievements as an independent artist operation. If you’re not yet familiar with them, check out this track and you’ll understand why I fell for them…

Vincent Abbate, Blues Music Magazine (US):
Like the great Brother Ray, Risager has always kept one foot in the blues. But the other one jumps around constantly. Soul, R&B, jazz and straight-ahead rock’n’roll are all part of the mix. The musicianship is top-notch. His voice? Critics have bent over backward trying to find the right comp to describe its dark, raw tone. Names like David Clayton Thomas, Van Morrison, Ray Charles and even Tom Jones have been tossed around. Yet at the end of the day, Risager and his talented mates have managed to create a sound all their own, and it has come into full bloom on Too Many Roads. The album juxtaposes quiet moments of spine-tingling beauty with powerful rockers like shots of adrenaline.

(from one of our press texts:)Thorjbjurn, Thornbjorg, Thorgborn, Tjorborn, Thörbjorn …. new suggestions keep coming in
How can an act from Copenhagen with an almost unpronounceable name play more than 100 gigs a year in 20 countries, and release 10 CDs in 10 years, with great reviews from important music media in the USA, UK, Germany, France, Benelux, Scandinavia?
They’ve performed in most European countries and also Canada and in India, at Mahindra Blues in Mumbai, Asia’s biggest blues festival headlined by Buddy Guy. After the signing with Ruf Records  in 2014 things have moved even faster for them, and their success story is almost as amazing as their music!
More than 90 % of their repertoire is composed by Thorbjørn himself, and even though they usually get categorized as a blues band, their style also incorporates elements from rock, soul, funk, singer-songwriter, New Orleans etc. The band was formed in 2003, and 5 of the original members are still in the band. It’s a band that sticks together through thick and thin, and the intense touring has just made them even tighter, musically and otherwise.
