MISS EMILY FINDS HER SOLID GROUND

JUNO-nominated and Maple Blues Award-winning Canadian artist Miss Emily has released her new single Solid Ground, taken from her forthcoming album The Medicine, out November 7 on Gypsy Soul Records.

Solid Ground is a soulful, heartfelt message written for her young daughter during one of the hardest times in Emily’s life. “It’s one of the oldest songs on my new album,” she says. “It was written when my daughter was very young. We were very poor; I had no financial support and no close family nearby. There was so much I couldn’t give her, but I knew I had all the love in the world for her and somehow, I’d find a way to make her feel secure. This song is that promise to her.

Produced by Grammy winner Colin Linden (Keb’ Mo’, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Gregg Allman, Diana Krall), The Medicine features players from the bands of Bob Dylan and Keb’ Mo’, blending soul, blues, and roots with honesty and fire. Linden praises Emily’s approach in the studio:
Miss Emily is a tremendously passionate and supple singer, with a deep well of emotion. She’s a truth teller. Working with her was pure joy.

Known for her powerful voice and fearless songwriting, Miss Emily has never shied away from honesty. Over two decades, she has turned personal struggle into songs that connect, heal, and inspire. “I wasn’t in a great head space when I started writing this album,” she admits. “I wrote an angry song, but as I kept preparing the others, I realised I didn’t want anger to be the main theme. I wanted to celebrate community. I wanted to record music that made people feel better.

Miss Emily’s story is one of resilience and passion. From the Canadian highway circuit between Toronto and Montreal to major festival stages, she has earned praise and respect from audiences and peers alike. Gene Simmons once said, “Miss Emily has the best pipes we’ve ever heard in an unsigned artist!” while Rob Baker of The Tragically Hip described her voice as “raw, expressive, and unafraid to dig deep.

In 2019, Miss Emily won three Maple Blues Awards for Female Vocalist, Newcomer, and Video of the Year. She was nominated for a JUNO Award in 2022 and has since added more Maple Blues honours to her name, including Female Vocalist of the Year in 2021 and 2023.

Her latest work builds on the momentum of the first single Stand Together, Band Together, a soulful anthem celebrating unity and the healing power of music.

At the heart of everything Miss Emily does lies one simple truth: music heals. Whether singing to a packed hall or a small crowd, she invites everyone to join her in song – a shared moment that reminds us that community and compassion are the real medicine.
