Canadian blues, soul, and rock artist Marcus Trummer is back with a brand-new single, Hard Time, released on Friday, 20th September. The Calgary-based singer-songwriter and guitarist’s latest track is available on all major streaming platforms, accompanied by an official music video on YouTube.
Hard Time is the third single from Trummer’s eagerly awaited debut album, From The Start, which is set for release on Friday, 15th November 2024, via Gypsy Soul Records. Fans can pre-order the album on vinyl and CD now.
Speaking about the new track, Trummer shares the message behind it: “Hard Time is about the fact that love is ultimately what matters and is what we need to be aimed at spreading,” he says. “Our world is truly a crazy and chaotic place, with what feels like endless division, conflict, and tragedy. With all the pain and suffering out there, I believe love is the only answer.”
Produced by Ross Hayes Citrullo (The Commoners) and Renan Yildizdogan (Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar, Bywater Call), From The Start features Silas Trummer on drums and Stacey Shopsowitz on bass. The album also boasts contributions from members of The Commoners, including Miles Evans-Branagh (keys and piano) and Adam Cannon (drums), alongside the horn section from Canadian soul outfit Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar. Nicky Lawrence, a Gypsy Soul recording artist, adds her rich, soulful backing vocals to the mix.
“Hard Time” is the third single taken from Trummer’s highly anticipated studio album From The Start. The album, released by Gypsy Soul Records on Friday 15th November 2024, is available to pre-order on vinyl and CD HERE.
Trummer has already been turning heads in the Canadian music scene. Described as a “precocious guitarist whose vocals possess a wise-beyond-his-years weariness” by the Calgary Herald, his blend of blues, soul, and rock draws heavily on the classic sounds of the ’60s and ’70s. His emotive, warm vocals nod to soul legends like Bill Withers and Al Green, while his expressive guitar work channels the passion of B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix.
Trummer’s career has already seen him scoop a number of accolades. He won the Prophets of Music Emerging Artist Award at Calgary’s YYC Music Awards in 2019, before taking home Blues Recording of the Year at the same awards in 2022. He’s also been recognised on a national level, with a nomination for New Artist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards in 2022. His talent reached international stages in 2023 when he won the prestigious Telluride Blues Challenge in Colorado.
In From The Start, listeners can expect Trummer’s signature mix of heartfelt lyrics and raw emotion, drawing on universal themes of love, life, and growing up. His ability to blend old-school soul with contemporary flair makes him one of the most exciting new voices in blues today.
Don’t miss out on Hard Time – a single that promises to showcase Marcus Trummer’s unique artistry as he continues his rise in the blues world.
