Blues-rock heavyweight Joe Bonamassa is back with “Trigger Finger,” the latest single from his upcoming studio album Breakthrough, due out on July 18th via J&R Adventures. The track packs a punch with gritty guitar riffs, a fierce vocal delivery, and a message of resilience and reinvention.
Co-written with longtime collaborator Tom Hambridge and produced by Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, Journey, The Black Crowes), “Trigger Finger” leans into a more aggressive sound while still rooted in Bonamassa’s blues-rock DNA. From the opening bars, it’s clear this is Bonamassa in fighting form, delivering a no-nonsense anthem that bristles with energy.
Breakthrough was recorded across three locations – Santorini, Nashville, and Los Angeles – and captures a range of musical textures, moods, and influences. “Trigger Finger” follows the release of the album’s title track, the uplifting “Breakthrough,” along with the introspective “Shake This Ground” and the groove-rich “Still Walking With Me.” Together, these tracks reveal the emotional and stylistic scope of an artist still pushing boundaries.
With over 50 releases and a record-breaking 28 number-one albums on the Billboard Blues chart, Bonamassa continues to set the standard for contemporary blues-rock. Breakthrough is already shaping up to be his most diverse and adventurous release to date.
Currently riding high off a European tour with supergroup Black Country Communion, Bonamassa will hit the road this summer for more headline shows across Europe and the US. Highlights include sold-out dates in Ireland, a return to Montreux Jazz Festival, Bospop, and the Bourbon & Beyond Festival in the States. He also returns to the high seas later this year for the sold-out Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea Alaska cruise.
“Trigger Finger” is out now on all major streaming platforms.
