On Saturday the 20th of March Jed Potts & the Hillman Hunters will release the single It Won’t Be Long – number 3 in a series of singles focusing exclusively on original material.

Reassembling the same team responsible for the band’s self-titled 2018 debut album, “It Won’t Be Long” was recorded and mixed by Graeme Young at Chamber Studio, Edinburgh, mastered by Reuben Taylor; with artwork by Craig MacFadyen aka Lentil.

Talking about the third single release Jed Potts had this to say;

“This is another tune that has existed in its basic essence for a long time but took a great deal of faffing to get to feel like a complete song, as opposed to just a jam.
This kind of groove has always been a great place for us to go live as it seems to lend itself to our particular style of interplay and musical rascality, which I think we’ve managed to capture on the recording. This is the kind of thing that you can’t plan. It’s totally different every night and was indeed totally different on every take. Full credit has to go to Jonny and Charlie for their work on this one. This kind of song lives or dies on personality, spontaneity and risk, and they really delivered”.

Certainly, the interplay of the fantastic rhythm section makes this a very groove-driven track. It certainly has the hallmarks of the legendary Chicago bluesmen written all over this, Howlin’ Wolf vibes aplenty. Jed’s vocals are very evocative of a bygone era which he has been richly influenced by. Keeping to tradition, listen to the lyrics and there certainly is that “murder ballad” slant, dealing with crime or a gruesome death of an overbearing partner!

There is a reference to burying his true love in the back yard and other nuances. Very clever lyrics only to be expected by Jed, who is a master of the craft. For this track, the band proves they can mix styles and genres with ease. Looking forward to single four already. All the songs are originals and Jed has previously intimated the process of releasing these singles appeals to himself artistically and keeps an ongoing conversation going with his fans. Intriguing times for these very talented musicians. Really enjoying their releases and seeing them play live is a great experience. Maybe they’ll get a chance soon to road test these singles, just have to wait. Excellent song, keep them coming!

The song will be available to stream on all major platforms, and also available for download from Bandcamp.
