Interview time...
Quick Guide to Using Riverside for Interviews
To get the best possible audio and video quality for our interviews, we’re now using Riverside. It records each person locally in high resolution, so it’s important we set things up properly from the start. Follow this simple guide to make sure every session runs smoothly.
Schedule the Interview
Log in to riverside.fm
Choose your allocated “STUDIO” at the top left
Click “Schedule” down the left side
Click on NEW SESSION
Add a title (I’d suggest the name of the artist)
Set the date and time
Enter email(s) of the invited guest(s)
Write a description of the session
This will send an email invitation to the artist you are going to interview which they can click on when the time comes (example picture shown).
Clicking on SCHEDULE again will show all upcoming interviews that have been scheduled, and also provide the link to join them as the host.
Please keep in mind we are sharing this account so make sure to only join your own interviews.
WHEN IT'S TIME...
Please copy and paste these helpful tips to the person you are interviewing before the event, and also follow the same guide yourself!
Please make sure of the following to get the best quality:
– Be in a quiet room with no background noise
– Use earphones or earpods (this stops echo and improves audio)
– Use Google Chrome on a laptop if possible
– Turn your phone or tablet sideways (landscape)
– Make sure your Wi-Fi is strong – closer to the router = better
– Click the link 5 minutes early for tech check
Once everyone is in the session, and you’ve said your hello’s : press the red record button. A 5 second countdown will start and then you’re off and running.
Let's record...
Try to think of this as a podcast!
An introduction at the start – “Hi everyone. My name is X and joining me today is X ARTIST, welcome to the show!…”
Try not to talk over your guest – wait for them to finish their sentences before you jump in.
And provide a clear wrap up at the end – “Well thanks for joining us and all the best on your tour”
Once finished, press the STOP button. You and the interviewee need to stay online to allow the recordings to upload to the server. This could take several minutes but there is a progress bar on each of your screens to let you know how it’s getting on.
