This was a night of firsts for me — I had never seen either Samantha Fish or Troy Redfern perform live before. Safe to say, both artists delivered in style.
Opening the show was slide-guitar powerhouse Troy Redfern, joined only by his drummer. Performing as a duo might sound sparse, but their tight musicianship quickly proved otherwise. Redfern ripped through a six-song set with grit and energy, including standout performances of Taking My Soul, Native, and a fiery version of John The Revelator.

Then came the main event. For nearly two hours, Samantha Fish commanded the stage and had the near-capacity crowd eating out of the palm of her hand. I’ve enjoyed several of her albums, so I knew she was talented — but nothing prepared me for just how good she is live. Her voice, rich and emotive, is perfectly suited to blues and blues-rock, and her guitar work is just as compelling.
The set included fresh material from her latest album Paper Doll, alongside a dynamic mix of fan favourites from across her back catalogue. From the gritty Kick Out The Jams to the haunting I Put A Spell On You, every song landed with purpose. By the end of the night, it was clear that Samantha Fish had gained another die-hard fan — me.
