ERIN HARPE COUNTRY BLUES DUO
Long have I waited to see Erin and Jim perform live, from the videos I’ve seen on social media and their interactions with fans, it’s heartwarming to see that along with nice songs, they are nice people,so off I trek on a grey Friday night to deepest Camden,to my second favourite venue, the Green Note,just up Parkway past the Dublin Castle.
I love this place because it’s a very intimate little venue where they put gigs in the main bar and the basement, which is where we are venturing tonight. On top of that, they ask the punters to be quiet whilst the artists perform so it’s my type of place.
Off we GO, with Erin on guitar and Jim on mandolin bass; they set off with comfortable and engaging humour and from the first song I knew I’d made the right choice on two accounts, one was for coming and two was for talking my old friend Tom to join me.
What follows can only be described as a completely wonderful evening of music in the country Blues style they have perfected. There are happy tunes, break-up tunes, singalong tunes, songs with a kazooka, a kazoo with a trumpet-style horn attachment.
I can feel my face getting that content grin it has when I’m in my happy place, live music at its best. When I mention Blues music to some people, they think it’s all sadness and doom songs, but sometimes that couldn’t be further from the truth because as I look around the venue all I can see is smiles and the audience singing along.
Two superb sets have my feet tapping, my heart racing and my face hurting from smiling so much, I hope they come to the UK again sometime soon..
