Croatian blues/rocker Vanja Sky took a few moments out of her busy schedule to share with us her five favourite blues songs of all time. It’s a nicely balanced list of blues legends as well as illustrating the blues roots of some rock heavyweights. We hope you enjoy!
1) Ride On – AC/DC
The bluesiest song from my all-time favourite band AC/DC. They rock hard, but these boys also know how to play the blues. And this song is the proof. Bon`s voice, Angus` guitar tone, and the lyrics. It’s a perfect mix that hits you right in the nerve.
2) Too Much Alcohol – Rory Gallagher
Rory is a master. He has quite a number of great tunes, so it was a tough job to pick just one song from my guitar hero. My favourite version of “Too Much Alcohol” is when he sings alone and plays the resonator guitar, which shows the rhapsody of his talent and how special he was. Rory on!!!
3) I Can’t Be Satisfied – Muddy Waters
The opening riff of this tune got me immediately. Muddy influenced so many musicians and so much music that we know today. The sound of a cracking old vinyl can paint so many pictures in your head and takes you all the way to Mississippi. It can’t get any better than that! Thanks Muddy!
4) I Get Evil (Don’t You Lie To Me) – Albert King
Groovy, Groovy, Groovy!!! He`s a “King” for a reason! The version of this song that he played on his “In Session” album with Stevie Ray Vaughan is also very much worth of checking out! Double Trouble and double pleasure! The guitar tones of both artists are simply amazing!
5) Spoonful – Howlin’ Wolf
Howlin’ Wolf is the definition of a real bluesman with one of the dirtiest, sexiest, and coolest vocals! It makes you move, and you want to start howling yourself.
Vanja’s latest album “Woman Named Trouble” is out now via Ruf Records.
