Warren Haynes, the GRAMMY®-winning vocalist, songwriter, guitarist, producer, and Gov’t Mule frontman, has just released his latest solo project, The Whisper Sessions, via Fantasy Records.
The nine-track digital-only collection strips back highlights from his acclaimed 2024 solo album Million Voices Whisper, presenting them in intimate, acoustic form. Produced by Haynes himself, the set showcases his soulful vocals, refined guitar playing, and the emotive songwriting that has defined his career.
Among the standout moments are two covers, including a moving take on the Allman Brothers Band’s timeless ballad Melissa. Recorded in one take with Derek Trucks – Haynes’ longtime ABB bandmate and a guest on three tracks across the record – the new version has already been praised by Goldmine Magazine, who wrote: “Haynes helps summon the spirit of Gregg Allman in a version that will give listeners chills.” To mark the release, an official performance video for Melissa has also been unveiled.
Other highlights include These Changes, co-written and performed with Trucks, which resonates with the stripped-down honesty that defines the whole record. The result is an unfiltered glimpse into Haynes’ artistry, where every lyric and note rings with newfound clarity.
Million Voices Whisper, released in November 2024, marked Haynes’ first solo album in nearly a decade and his fourth overall. Lauded as one of his finest works, it featured contributions from Lukas Nelson and Jamey Johnson on the single Day of Reckoning and quickly topped the charts.
Haynes will also be back on the road with Gov’t Mule this autumn and into 2026, with shows across the US and appearances at events including Island Exodus in Jamaica and Joe Bonamassa’s Sound Wave in Florida.
