GRAMMY-winning artist Warren Haynes has unveiled The Whisper Sessions, a stripped-back digital album offering a fresh take on songs from his acclaimed 2024 solo record Million Voices Whisper. Scheduled for release on Friday 12th September via Fantasy Records, the 9-track collection peels away the production layers to reveal the raw emotion and musical depth at the heart of each track.
The sessions include seven standout songs from Million Voices Whisper as well as two reimagined covers. Longtime Allman Brothers Band collaborator Derek Trucks features on three tracks, including a moving rendition of “Melissa” and the newly released “These Changes,” a co-write with Haynes. The latter, available to stream now, showcases the effortless chemistry between the two guitarists, especially during the spontaneous instrumental trade-offs that emerged naturally during the studio recording.
“‘These Changes’ is about looking back and forward at the same time,” says Haynes. “The instrumental section at the end just happened — it wasn’t in the original arrangement, but it felt right. It was a great opportunity to rekindle the musical connection Derek and I have always had.”
The idea for The Whisper Sessions wasn’t initially planned. Instead, it came about organically while revisiting acoustic performances of the Million Voices Whisper tracks. As Haynes explains, “We realised they offered a unique perspective on the songs themselves, so we thought it would be cool to make them available.”
Released in November 2024, Million Voices Whisper debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Blues Albums Chart and marked Haynes’ first solo album in nearly a decade. Featuring guests such as Lukas Nelson, Jamey Johnson, and multiple appearances from Derek Trucks, it was hailed as one of his finest works to date.
Ahead of the release of The Whisper Sessions, Haynes is set to embark on a European tour with his solo band before returning to the US for Gov’t Mule’s newly announced Back In The Saddle Tour, celebrating 30 years since their debut album. A run of co-headline dates with Tedeschi Trucks Band is also on the horizon.
