Roy Mette Band- Vibralism

Roy Mette has had an interesting and varied musical career to date, amongst other items he has released an acoustic album of Jimi Hendrix material and had at least one album released on the inaugural Blues Matters label back in 2007, this his latest release showcases fourteen original tracks of varied styles from a head on rocking blues to more laid back melodic material. Roy takes the honours on lead vocals and guitar while the two remaining band members; Andy Bostock and Dave McCarthy cover Bass and drums respectively, they are not a power trio in the true sense of the words as they probably under amplify but they do perform as a very tight unit and work through the material effortlessly, the title track Vibralism is an interesting guitar driven song that starts owing a debt to the Shadows but then explodes into life with a Hendrix style freak-out, two other tracks to highlight are; The Drop Below a slow Blues with a cappella style vocals against a stark acoustic background and the final track White Men Sing The Greens, a whimsical send up with a vocal reminiscent of Stan Webb’s inter track voice on the OK Ken album. An enjoyable and very varied album that showcases Roy and his band at their best, I am sure this release has allowed Roy to record some less energetic numbers that he would not normally perform live.
