Southern California roots rockers Robert Jon & The Wreck have released their new studio album Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes, out now via Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records. Recorded in Savannah, Georgia with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb and mixed by Greg Gordon (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson), the record delivers ten tracks that capture both the band’s raw live energy and their gift for heartfelt storytelling.
Rock & Blues Muse has already praised the album as “a true testament to their ability to capture the human experience through music.”
A title track with power and soul
The latest single, “Heartbreak & Last Goodbye,” began as a simple acoustic sketch before evolving into one of the album’s standout moments. Guided by Cobb’s production, the song swells with emotional intensity, featuring tuneful piano from Jake Abernathie, mellotron textures, and Robert Jon Burrison’s impassioned vocals.
“It took one listen through for Dave to guide us to the arrangement that felt right,” guitarist Henry James explains. “It’s a climactic and emotional song. Lyrically, it’s an age-old tale of heartbreak, raising a glass to love lost and the ghost it leaves behind.” With its anthemic chorus — “So, pour me more liquor and forget the ice, ‘cause I’ve been watered down too many times” — the track transforms sorrow into communal release, making it a cathartic centerpiece for the album.
Songs that span moods and moments
Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes builds on the momentum of recent singles “Dark Angel,” “Keep Myself Clean,” “Better Of Me,” and “I Wanna Give It.” From the haunting beauty of “Ashes in the Snow” to the relentless drive of “Highway,” the record charts the highs and lows of love, loss and renewal. Classic Rock Magazine has described the album as “their most accomplished work to date,” praising the balance between soulful lyricism and rock-and-roll fire.
A band on the rise
Formed in 2011, Robert Jon & The Wreck — Robert Jon Burrison (vocals, guitar), Henry James (lead guitar, vocals), Andrew Espantman (drums, vocals), Warren Murrel (bass) and Jake Abernathie (keys) — have built their reputation through relentless touring. Their sound blends southern rock grit with California soul, appealing to audiences worldwide.
Following a packed European summer tour and a string of major U.S. festival appearances, the band is keeping up the momentum with upcoming headlining U.S. dates and a West Coast run with Samantha Fish. As TotalNtertainment puts it, “Robert Jon & The Wreck are a band at the top of their game.”
