Behind the scenes at the New Crawdaddy Club
Named in honour of the famous Richmond venue that spawned so much of the 60’s blues boom, such as the Rolling Stones, the New Crawdaddy has run for around 13 years, every Thursday night. Its part of lively Essex Blues scene which has run through Doctor Feelgood and Wilko Johnson, Tim Aves and the Rockin’ Armadillos, and more recently bands such as Hokie Joint with their Keith Richard look-a-like drummer Stephen Cutmore, and Elephant Shelf. Several major names have played here including Buddy Whittington, Larry Miller, Joe Bonamassa and Connie Lush. The music is of a consistently high standard – Blues, R&B and Roots. If you’ve enjoyed anything in R&B from Muddy Waters, James Brown through to the Rolling Stones and Oli Brown there is something for you to enjoy.
There is a superb dedicated team behind the scenes led by Paul Dean, and the sound team is also the house band the Heaters who open every club evening. A highly versatile unit playing the whole range of classic sounds the Heaters are at this year’s Cambridge Rock Festival alongside Essex favourites such as the Hamsters, Larry Miller, Elephant Shelf and Roadhouse. One of Essex’s finest nights out!
